In line with this program, the ITA was also entrusted with the results management for the cases based on Anti-Doping Rule Violations (ADRVs) discovered through the re-analysis program. The selection of the samples that underwent further analysis was based on an extensive risk assessment.
In June 2020, the ITA concluded the re-analysis of the selected samples using the latest technology to discover prohibited substances in the samples. The program uncovered more than 80 ADRVs in total, resulting in some cases in medal reallocations by the IOC.
The ITA has launched the Sochi 2014 re-analysis program in December 2020 and has established a Centralised Lont-Term Storage Facility in order to systematically store and analyse samples taken during the pre-Games and Games’ time periods of Olympic and other major events.
